Manhattan Kickers 2007 (USA)

The Manhattan Kickers (U-11 and U-13 categories) participated in the TOP TRAINING BRASIL soccer camp program in August 2007. During the training period in Brazil, the Manhattan Kickers delegation, under the supervision of the CBF training staff had the opportunity to improve their skills, to interact and share experiences with their Brazilian piers.

Lodging for the 38-member delegation of the Manhattan Kickers was arranged at the Hotel Meu Repouso located only 5 minutes away from Granja Comary. During The Manhattan Kickers 6-day instruction period at Granja Comary their participants had the opportunity to watch the practices of two Brazilian National squads (Women’s & Men U-18) as well a Flamengo’s top team.

The Manhattan kickers training experience was complemented by two “futsal” matches played against experienced local teams (Teresópolis and Clube Comary), which took place at the recently reformed Pedro Jahara Gymnasium – Pedrão.

The delegation spent 3 days in Rio de Janeiro, staying at the Hotel Ipanema Tower. During this period the Mahattan Kickers conducted training exercizes at the famous Ipanema beaches. Later they played friendly matches against two sides of the great Vasco da Gama (field soccer) and Flamengo (society soccer);As a sightseeing excursion, the Manhattan Kickers got to visit “Christ the Redeemer”, one of the 7 modern wonders of the world.

On August 23rd the team had the unique opportunity of stepping on the playing field of the Maracanã, the world’s most famous stadium. The Manhattan Kickers escorted the players of the Flamengo professional team onto the field, in their game against Juventude (match for the 2007 Brazilian National Championship). Later, the Manhattan Kickers watched the easy win (4 x 0) of the carioca team from the CBF’s sky-box.

The coaching staff that accompanied the team to Brazil affirmed Top Training Brasil was a unique experience for the Manhattan Kickers team members and fundamental for both the maturity and the tactical / technical improvement of these young players.
